A PechaKucha* is a unique visual storytelling format, pronounced Puh-CHA’-ka-CHA’.
A Pecha-Kucha Night is a community forum centered on succinct 400 second stories to bring creative minds together for a night of inspiration, networking, and fun. Creating and presenting a PechaKucha is an exciting adventure for the teller and the audience! The recorded live audio and 20 images of most PechaKuchas are uploaded to the PechaKucha website extending the reach of each presenter’s story to a global audience. (https://www.pechakucha.org/watch )
In a PechaKucha the images are more important than the words. The images and words play together to create the elements of story: plot, setting, characters, point of view, theme, symbolism, conflict and resolution.
During the workshop we will ask the question “What comes first – the image or the word?” Each participant starts with a short personal story and then decides which images best enhance the words . We will provide a physical library of images to create storyboards for a mini-Pechakucha! This format allows participants to play with the rhythm, flow and look of a story (but NOT the timing)! A PechaKucha is for “ALL KINDS!”
So, what’s in it for you? You will experience the atmosphere of a real PechaKucha – inspiration, networking and fun! You will learn how to put one together, and maybe be inspired to either participate in a PechaKucha night in one of 1100 cities worldwide OR start one in your city or town!
If you are in Connecticut on March 21st attend our Volume 4 Bridgeport PechaKucha at the Barnum Museum: http://bit.ly/BridgeportPK4
*PechaKuchas were devised in 2003 by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of Tokyo’s Klein-Dytham Architecture initially as a way to ensure concise and more powerful PowerPoint presentations. It is a free licensed format. A previous NEST blog entry has more information: https://www.nestorytelling.org/the-birthing-of-the-bridgeport-pechakucha/
