BARBARA ALIPRANTIS, a Trilingual (English/Greek/ASL) Storyteller was born in Greece. Her repertoire includes: stories about her Greek-American immigrant childhood played out on the sidewalks of Brooklyn, NY, her adult life in the bustling multiethnic borough of Queens and anecdotes/stories of how people circumvent communication obstacles, culled over 30 years experience working with multilingual, linguistically diverse populations of all ages – hearing and Deaf, including people with special needs.

Founder of the New York STORY Exchange, Barbara launched the 2nd Tuesday of the month series at the Cornelia Street Café in 1997, making it the longest continuous evening storytelling series for adults in NYC. https://www.facebook.com/NewYorkStoryExchange.

Her awards include a National Storytelling Network ORACLE Service Award, and she was honored at New York City Hall for “her distinguished body of work…for her commitment to sharing multicultural folklore and immigrants’ experiences for both hearing and non-hearing audiences around the country.” She holds a BA in the Performing Arts from SUNY Empire State College, with a concentration in “Total Communication and Performance.”
